Christkindl Market of Mifflinburg, Inc.

Preparations for the 2021 Mifflinburg Christkindl Market are progressing well. A few years ago, the Market made an appeal to the community for volunteer help, and we received an enthusiastic response. However, we find that we must again approach the community to ask for volunteer help.

For many years, the Market relied heavily on the labor provided by a crew of about ten inmates who were part of a work release program through the Lewisburg Federal Prison. Unfortunately, this program has been discontinued due to the Covid pandemic. With the loss of this essential labor force, the board faces the challenge of replacing that work force. We are appealing to the community for volunteers to help with Market set up and tear down, a big job that requires many hands. We are especially looking for individuals who are willing to assist on Sunday afternoon, December 5, from 12:30 to 4 p.m., with loading and transporting items from the VFW grounds to the Market site. We also need a few individuals 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday, Dec 6 and 7, to assist with placing blocks to level the vendor huts as they are placed by the Borough crew. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, Dec 7, 8, and 9, we could use some volunteers to help with lighting and placing of decorations. Some of this work could be done in the evening for those who are available.

The Board will also need volunteers to assist with dismantling the Market on Sunday, December 12th, 12:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. We will also need volunteers on Monday, December 13th, from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. to assist with clean up as the huts are removed throughout the day.

The Market board hopes that community volunteers will step forward to assist in helping to make this holiday community event a reality. If you are able to contribute significant time to help, please contact us by email or call the Christkindl Hotline at 888-666-0877.
